“It is a sign of mediocrity when you demonstrate gratitude with moderation”
Roberto Benigni
It’s the little things that were taken from me. The things that in normal life, we all take for granted.
Singing at the top of your lungs to great music as you cruise down a highway alone or with friends. The taste of an ice cold beer or glass of fine wine. The chance to share conversation over my favourite scotch whether it be a traditional single malt or a fine Mexican scotch (tequila).
The chance to share a romantic meal with my wife or to sit down and enjoy a great family dinner. The ability to have in depth conversations with my sons without a huge effort for my words to be understood. That right of passage to take my sons out for their first beer as they come of age.
These are of the few things that hurt every day but I also know that I have lived a great life to this point with some incredible experiences that I am now and always be very thankful for.
I’ve tasted the most incredible Indian curry in Kilkenny Ireland, amazing American Barbeque in London England had great sushi in the desert and lived through delicious street tacos in Guadalajara Mexico.
I’ve traveled every corner of North America, driven incredible country roads through the United Kingdom. Rode a motorcycle through some of North America’s greatest scenery.
I got to marry my best friend and be blessed with two incredible sons. I’ve made many friendships everyplace I’ve lived and traveled and am great full to still be in touch with some of my childhood friends.
All in all, although I catch myself missing what I don’t have or what I can’t do, I never lose site of the fact that I am blessed. Blessed with my life experiences and everything I have in my life today.
